Artificial grass for small gardens & balconies
Small spaces are where artificial grass shines — instant green, no mowing, and you can lay it straight onto a patio or balcony. Here's how to choose and how much to buy.

For small or narrow areas, a 1m or 2m wide roll usually wastes far less than a 4m one — you're not paying for metres you'll just cut off. Our calculator compares 1m, 1.5m, 2m, 3m and 4m for your exact size and tells you which wastes least. For a space that matches a roll width (say 2m wide), you can get an almost perfect, waste-free fit.
Laying on a balcony, patio or decking
You don't need groundwork on a hard surface. Clean it, lay a foam shockpad underlay for comfort and drainage, then the grass on top, trimmed to fit and secured at the edges. Make sure water can still drain away.
Choosing the grass
In a small space you see the grass up close, so a natural-looking mid pile (around 30mm) is worth it. Because the area is small, the extra cost over budget grass is minimal — often just a few pounds.
